About Us!
Claire was born in Hertfordshire,
England she started riding at the age of seven years old. Since then she
has competed in Point to Points , cross country and eventing however
Dressage has never been her strong point. She moved to Spain in 2000 and
started with two horses for fun Scooby and Zafi. The hobby soon turned
into a business and she bought another four horses. The whole idea of
the business was for people to come and have fun hence the name Horsin' Around.
Our Vet
Aida is twenty six
years old and studied in Alicante, Barcelona and England.
When asked the reason for becoming a horse vet, she replied that her
father has a stud farm just outside Malaga and growing up with horses
she decided that this was the only thing she wanted.
When it was mentioned that it is extremely unusual for a female to
become an equine vet she replied that there are probably only five other
female equine vets in the whole of Malaga Province and like Aida they
are all young!
The way she is around horses and how she takes her time and calms them
is amazing, and we are very lucky to have found such a competent vet, who
even in emergencies has never let us down.
Our Farrier
Antonio comes to our yard from Motril, we think he is
about forty five years old but he will not actually admit to his actual
age. Antonio was apprenticed to his father and his father before
him, typically Spanish with one exception, he hot shoes (the English
method) rather than the traditional Spanish way of cold shoeing. He told
us he learned this from the North of Spain where he worked in large
stables where horses regularly competed in Show Jumping. Antonio
never loses his temper with the horses and remains calm at all time, we
often leave him to it as he can talk a horse to sleep.
